The historic center of the town of Žďár nad Sázavou is located in a former Cistercian monastery from the 13th century which has been rebuilt by the renowned architect Jan Blažej Santini–Aichel. Today the castle is owned by the Kinsky family. The extensive grounds include a range of convent and Cistercian economic buildings, the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the oldest primary school in Žďár region and the base of the local fire brigade. The castle currently combines history and contemporary art. In addition to regular exhibitions and concerts for the general public, it also provides residential stays for creative artists that regularly collaborate in an international festival of contemporary art and movement KoresponDance under which you can tour the castle grounds accompanied by our guides.
