L'Yeuse: No(s) terres

17.00, winter stadium
winter stadium

French and Sri Lankan dancers in a duet about similarities and differences, the things that connect us and our relationship to the land. A very current theme explored as contemporary dance. The meaning of roots expressed through the poetry of dance.

Sarath Amarasingam fled war in Sri Lanka. Olivier Renouf comes from rural France. They are linked not only by dance, but their relationships - broken, or intact - to the land. The title of the performance plays with this idea as well, juxtaposing "no terres” (no country) with "nos terres” (our country). Where have we come from? What makes us unique? No(s) terresemerges from geographic uprooting and a desire to interrogate our relationship to the earth, the idea of belonging somewhere, and the paths we take. Urgently, yet with ease, this duet expresses the complexities of who we feel ourselves to be and the role of the place we come from.

L'Yeuse was founded in 2000 by Olivier Renouf and Erika Zueneli. Their artistic research is centred on human beings, both their intrinsic nature and their relationship to the natural world around them.
