Birds in the Earth

Festival tanečních filmů v rámci svého projektu Intermezza představuje ve dvou blocích kolekci tanečních snímků zasvěcených cestám, objevům a neznámým světům.

Taneční filmy neboli "dance for camera", jsou experimentálním žánrem kinematografie propojující filmové a choreografické postupy. Festival tanečních filmů byl založen v Praze v roce 2009 a věnuje se prezentaci, produkci a šíření dance for camera filmů.

Bhairava (2017)

Film made by Canadian director Marlene Millar danced by worldly acclaimed dancer Shantala Shivalingappa. Bhairava evokes facets of Shiva, the Lord of Dance, as both the Destructor of Evil and the Guardian of Time. He is fierce and drives terrible deeds, but he is also the Divine Protector and his intention springs from pure compassion.

In this work, carried by a strong and deeply evocative musical score and by the special energy of the ancient site of Hampi, Shantala embodies the presence and energy of Bhairava. With her technical mastery  and refined expressivity, she alternates between moments of precise symbolic gestures and more abstract body-language surging from the powerful persona of Bhairava, creating a vivid incarnation of the deity.

Director: Marlene Millar, Philip Szporer; Choreographer: Shantala Shivalingappa

Traverse (2018)

Traverse weaves the stories of five women into a tapestry of collective experience, revealing an intersection of dance, movement and voices, a unity of experience in a profound personal yet collective journey. This expedition is set within natural and man-made structures that surround them: an ancient massive wall, stairs etched in stone, a perilous bridge - places they occupy and move through, discovering openings and connection, and encounter travellers sharing a similar trajectory passing into undiscovered terrain.

Director: Marlene Millar; Choreographer: Sandy Silva

Birds in the Earth (2018)

The main characters are two young Sámi ballet students; Birit and Katja Haarla. The movie tells a bit melancholic story through their dance performances. At the same time it is political commentary examining the deeper questions of the ownership of Sámi land.

Director: Marja Helander; ChoreographerBirit a Katja Haarla
