Wariot Ideal & Petr Forman: Iluzionista

An irredeemable theatre lover and notorious amateur actor performs everything a connoisseur of the performing arts desires to see: opera, western, ballet and horror. A historic work by the king of illusions will be seen. A grand performance will come to life before the audience’s eyes.

Genres, characters and costumes switch faster than you can track of, as our hero fails to notice that the prisoner of this world of illusions is none other than himself. With The Illusionist, a one-man cabaret performance by Vojta Švejda, the Wariot Ideal ensemble goes back to its roots, following on from the previous success of solo clown performances Bliss and Albert Is Afraid. The new work is not a simple return to modern pantomime or clowning; rather, it stubbornly creates an eclectic mix of seemingly all existing stage disciplines. Vojta Švedja plays a classic anti-hero who dreams of a role in a big theatre at any cost.

Wariot Ideal

Wariot Ideal has been an important player on the Czech alternative art scene since 2009. This creative collective has produced many unique works, all of them containing striking visual and musical components. Based at Alfred ve dvoře (Alfred in the Courtyard) Theatre in Prague, the group creates works for youth and adult audiences. Wariot Ideal regularly participates in important festivals and their productions are also presented abroad. The collective works with a stable composition of creatives. The key player is actor and mime Vojtěch Švejda, who has previously worked with the National Theatre. He was nominated for an Alfréd Radok Award in 2009, and, in 2012, received the Czech Theatre DNA Award for his outstanding representation of original Czech theatre abroad. The other members of Wariot Ideal are musician and composer Jan Kalivoda, author of the music for many of the collective’s productions, lighting designer, scenographer, and amateur filmmaker Jan Dörner, and production manager Milena Dörnerová. Together, they focus on creating original works, including full-length dramatic productions, as well as improvised programs, movement theatre, pantomime, and physical theatre.
